Do you often feel confused about what foods to eat, what type of meditation to practice and exercise to do?
Do you feel overwhelmed and inundated by the massive amounts of information about spirituality, self-help and self-improvement, and feel uncertain about what is best for you?
Although I usually feel quite “solid” and not confused about what to do – mostly because I make a conscious effort not to read too many blogs, books or articles, and stay present – a couple of weekends ago I found myself having a “What should I do?” moment.
I was at my favourite health food shop, and a book caught my eye. It was called “I Quit Sugar,” but as I went to open it I noticed the book next to it was called “Don’t Quit Sugar!” So like a dazzled deer in headlights I froze, completely confused as to which book to pick up and read.
Eventually I decided to make an educated decision and pick up and read both books, but this just confused me further because then I didn’t know then if quitting sugar was good for my health or if reducing my intake of fruit and cutting out honey was bad for my health?
My mind jumped back and forth between both arguments, not knowing what to believe. I left the health food shop feeling confused and deflated.
In today’s world we are presented with so many choices. When we order a coffee we have a smorgasbord of options available to us: cappuccino, latte macchiato, mocha, decaf, flat white, espresso, vienna, turkish, iced coffee etc., and our choice of milk is just as extensive: full cream, skim, light, almond, rice, soya, coconut etc.
We can have whatever tickles our fancy and works for our dietary and life choices. But all of this choice also causes confusion.
Don’t get me wrong. I am pro-choice. I was one of the first people I know who swapped from full cream milk to soya – nowadays I use coconut milk – and as a celiac I’m thrilled at all the gluten free options available, but I also know how choice creates confusion.
Everyday I receive many emails from people all over the globe wanting to know what is best for them. They want to know which meditation will work for them, which spiritual practice is the best, what foods to eat and how to conduct their lives. They are confused about what they should do, and most of them have read many books and tried many things.
But here’s the thing; Getting stressed and worried about what you should do lowers your vibrations and creates more stress and worry. When you are stressed and worried you aren’t in touch with your intuition and don’t know what is right for you.
So, the best way to know what is right for you is to chill out, and the quickest way to do this is to bring your attention to the present moment and meditate!
You can only hear the voice of your intuition and know what is right for you – what is the right diet, form of meditation, exercise, affirmations, course etc. – if you’re mind is quiet and controlled. If it’s loud and chaotic, your intuition will be drowned out by the noise in your head and you’ll be confused about what to do.
Stay anchored in the present moment and meditate regularly. That way you will be connected to your intuition and can follow its guidance, and then life will only present you with those things that are right for you.
with love,
BelindaP.S. After chilling out and connecting with my intuition, the next day, I went back to my fav health food shop and bought the “I Quit Sugar Book.” Reducing my intake of fruit – I haven’t eaten refined sugars for some years now – has improved my energy levels and I no longer get an afternoon slump.
