I’ve been running an online business for 5 years. It started after I took Marie Forleo’s B-School. It was 2010, and I’d just come back from a gruelling workshop tour where I dragged my Hubby and 18-month old daughter to Africa and throughout Europe.
I love travel, but didn’t love the kind of money I made. I remember being at Hong Kong airport—our stopover between Europe and Australia—and seeing I’d “broken even.” I’d worked my tail feathers off, and hadn’t made any money! The event organisers, on the other hand, had made a killing!
This was to be a defining moment for me. A few days after we arrived back in Australia, I started googling “online courses.” I didn’t want to travel the world to do my work; I wanted the world to come to me. I didn’t want to work my tail feathers off and make minimal money; I wanted money to easily find me.
In 2012, I created my free online chakra course and starting offering it through my website. (I had already been giving free weekly White Light healings since 2008, but after offering my free chakra course, many many more people began signing up for the White Light.)
In 2013, I founded School of the Modern Mystic®, and in the July we had our first intake. The rest is . . . history . . .
Over the years I’ve had many people ask me how to run a successful business. Usually I steer clear of these questions because I’m the shy entrepreneur type. I don’t talk easily or freely about money, strategy, marketing, etc, mostly because I don’t think about these things much. I run my business intuitively.
Also, entrepreneurship isn’t my field of expertise, and I believe in “staying in your own lane.” (Talking only about what you are an expert about, and leaving the rest to other people who are the experts.) But in the past weeks, many people have asked me this question again, so here’s my short and not-so-entrepreneurial advice:
(Actually, it’s a question; two questions.)
1. What do you absolutely, 100% know works, betters, heals, and drastically improves lives? (What are you willing to put yourself on the line for?)
2. What do you absolutely, 100% know you love, adore, cherish, and are “on fire” about?
Jot down your answers to both of these questions and then combine them. Here is where your life purpose and successful business lies.
Take me, for example.
I absolutely, 100% know that working with the chakras works, betters, heals, and drastically improves lives.
I absolutely, 100% know that I love, adore, cherish, and are “on fire’ about sharing this knowledge with others.
Chakras are my life purpose—they’re the things I’m willing to put myself on the line for. I will teach and talk about these things until my last breath. That’s how much I believe in them; that’s how much I stand behind them.
