Many spiritually-minded people are cautious about social media. They’re wary of the ‘external-ness’ of it; the way it compels you to watch others, and always be up-to-date with everyone and their business.
Many people are also wary of the way social media allows us to portray ourselves in any way we choose, and many feel this glamorisation and over-emphasis on the positive in life creates an untrue image. Because nobody’s life is always perfect and positive, this makes us feel unworthy and sets us up to experience comparison, envy and disappointment.
Recently I’ve been asked why and how I use social media, and how I stay centred in my own self whilst doing so. I’ve also been asked why I use social media if I’m ‘anti social’ media. (I never said I’m anti social-media but I can understand why people may think this).
I use social media – Facebook and Instagram – because I love these channels for sharing the message, my business and inspiring and connecting with people. Every time I post through these channels, I send out a beam of light.
So, I do use social media. But I use it consciously and cautiously.
It’s true that I rarely check my Facebook and Instagram streams, and currently, I’m not subscribed to any mailing lists nor do I use my private Facebook page. I also feel that spending lots of time on social media is a big waste of time.
For me personally, I also chose to use social media sparingly because I prefer not to be inundated by information. I find the nature of social media and the web very confusing and overwhelming for my sensitive empath nature, and social media often feels like an endless loop of broadcasting and events… and it makes my head spin!
I also prefer to be focused on the insights and information I receive within the space of the white light. I like living in my creative and spiritual bubble in which I’m only minimally influenced by trends and other people’s interpretations of their truth. My inner artist loves space, quiet and reflection, and that is also why I read very few self-help and spiritual books. (I prefer to rely on the direct insights I receive).
However, one of my daily joys is sharing and connecting on Facebook and Instagram. I love those spaces. I love the people I connect with there, and I endeavour to read every single comment someone makes.
I also love and am truly honoured by the fact that the people who follow me want to hear from me! For someone who is very cautious about who they let into their sphere, I’m deeply honoured that you’d want me in yours.
with love,
Belinda
