I’m one of those kinds if given the choice between a Netflix series or a novel, I’II take the novel. Creating my own characters and worlds from the written word is one of my life’s greatest joys.
(Watching the movie after reading the book usually disappoints me.)
Walk into my office, and you’ll find me at my standing desk, writing. Or on the floor, meditating and doing Pilates. Or on the bed, nose deep in a book, my black-and-white-fluff-ball-of-a-dog, Charlie, curled at my feet, with a ginger-spiced latte or pot of something herbal at arm’s reach.
A couple of days ago, my best friend Lauren asked me what amazing books I’d read in the past while. (She’s been living with us since COVID-19. She’s a beauty therapist, and had to close her business.)
I walked her over to my large, white bookshelf, and started pulling out some books.
I thought perhaps you’d like to know what I chose?
— The Woman in the Window, by A. J. Finn
— Ruby, by Cynthia Bond
— The Signature of All Things, by Elizabeth Gilbert
— The Mayfair Witches Trilogy, by Anne Rice
— Me, by Elton John
— Jack Gilbert (Collected Poems), by Jack Gilbert
— Saturday, by Ian McEwan
— His Bright Light, Danielle Steel
These books stayed with me long after I read the last word, shut the book, and put them back on the shelf.
Most of them I’ve read several times, not just lately. And each time I re-read them, I’ve been astounded by their brilliance and beauty.
I hope you enjoy them, too.
Happy reading!
with love,
Belinda
P.S. Oh, I almost forgot to say … Tori Amos’s book has just been released! I’m counting the hours before it arrives. (She’s the person I’d chose if I could meet anyone in the entire world, living or dead.)
P.P.S. And also— I’ve just found out the release date for my book. It’s July 14th 🎉🎉 Stay tuned! Much more about this very, very soon.
