It happened for me late in life. I was thirty-seven; it was two and a half years ago. That’s when I met my best friend, Lauren.
She came to one of my events. I then went for one of her massages. The moment she put her hands on me I knew there was something between us. Something unspoken, powerful.
But I’d long given up the hope of ever finding a bestie. It was a secret wish stored deep inside. (Who would put up with my psychic quirks and bad habit of getting into rants about social injustice and spiritual fluffery? Who could handle my intensity?)
But at the end of the treatment, she looked at me and announced, “I think I understand you. I’ve never met someone like you. Someone so … how can I put it, ‘with feet in both worlds.’ But I think I get it. I can feel how hard it is for you.”
We hadn’t been talking about this during the treatment. This came out of the blue. She’d just felt it. How difficult it can be for me being so psychic.
She said it with such compassion, with such deep understanding. And ancient knowing. She knew my pain. She knew my soul.
She truly saw me.
We’ve been inseparable ever since. We meet-up every week for dinner, and afterwards I have a massage with her. And when we’re together, we laugh and joke around and fall over each other in fits of giggles and snot.
We also cry together. And rant. (Well, I rant; she listens.) I share my secrets with Lauren, my heart. She shares hers with me. And together, we try to be better women, friends, wives, mothers, daughters, business owners, modern mystics.
Lauren and I will be best friends until we die. This is soul contract stuff. And even death won’t be able to separate us because we’ll be connected through spirit … Whoever goes first will continue to support the other.
Lauren is the type of friend that every person deserves.
She’s the type of friend I hope you have in your life.
If you have a bestie (or two), perhaps it’s time to do something amazing for them to thank them for their love and dedication.
Maybe send them an outrageously huge bunch of flowers, or a handwritten note in gold pen. Or take them away for a weekend, and eat and drink and laugh so much you come home with aching ribs.
If you don’t yet have a best friend, just keep being your awesome self 🙂
I know someone, someday, will waltz into your life, look deep in your soul and say, “Honey, I like what I see, and I’m in it for the long run!”
Keep rocking it!
with love,
