What it Means to Have Faith

What it Means to Have Faith

What does it mean to you to have faith? Does it mean you believe ‘everything will work out good in the end’? Or does it mean you have faith in ‘what is?’

Sometime ago someone asked me what faith meant for me. I paused, thought, and then replied, “Faith is how I feel when I’m connected to the present moment. Because when I’m aligned with myself, I trust.”

But after responding to the question, I thought – I don’t feel I communicated this very well. I wonder what my spiritual teacher, Eckhart Tolle, says about faith…

Eckhart Tolle teaches us that confidence is the absence of fear. The spiritual word for confidence is ‘faith.’ Faith is also trust, so when we trust we have faith.

We can access faith by connecting to the deeper dimension within. (The quickest way to faith is to suspend thinking and feel yourself as the presence. To be in the here and now; present, as Eckhart calls it).

This means that when we aren’t ‘fearing,’ we’re in faith. We have total and utter faith and trust in the ‘is-ness’ of life. So we flow with life and let it happen to us rather than try to control or manipulate it.

I love this definition of faith. It makes me feel joyous and free. Free to be myself in the moment and trust in all that happens.

I have some important news that I want to share with you … After much thought, soul searching, and heartache I've decided to close my online school, School of the Modern Mystic®.  As you may already know, I created School of the Modern Mystic® in 2013. This was a time when there weren't many—or maybe any—online schools and courses for modern mystics and spiritual seekers. My intention in founding the school was clear: I wanted to bring the "teachings", those spiritual practices that had radically improved my life and those of my clients, to everyone.

For me, finding hope in the darkness is not about wanting the darkness to go away or stop. It's about learning to find my way within it. For whatever reason, darkness doesn't—hasn't—frightened me the way it seems to frighten others.

What!? Are we really at the end of 2017? My goodness, where did this year go?  I honestly don't know. Suddenly it was January 1st, 2017, and just as suddenly it's almost January 1st, 2018. This year felt like a shinkansen (bullet train). In a blink of an eye, it's passed. If you're anything like me, you also found this year challenging. It was difficult, stretching, and confronting. It was shadowy. For me it was a year of deep revelations and even deeper lessons. I learned a ton. I cried a ton. And truth be told, I struggled a ton, too.
