Heh, wait! This isn’t feminism

Heh, wait! This isn’t feminism

Heh, wait a minute. Feminism is about equality, not the belittling or putting down of men.

What happened this morning in my yoga class is typical of the types of responses I’m hearing from women lately.

My yoga teacher, “Well, now that we only have women in the class this morning, we can join together in the sisterhood and actually get the job done, because we all know men are the lazier sex.”

Most of the women in the room chuckle. I’m saddened.

Why is it ok to talk about men like this!? I know a lot of men that aren’t lazy.

This group of women would be insulted if it were said about them. They’d say it was sexism. Women being insulted and put down again.

I was born a feminist. I’ve been fighting for my female rights all of my life. You may not know this about me because in my public life I chose to focus on other things—mostly the spiritual work, soul purpose, energy medicine, chakras, etc. But those of you that know me personally, you know I’m a firecracker for feminism.

(That’s also one of the reasons I moved to Europe—because I’ve experienced German culture + women to be more emancipated.)

For most of my life I’ve been criticised, bullied, shamed, and shunned. By my family, my church, the community, and other women (who, oddly, I thought I was standing up for) . . . All because I was born a feminist and had feminist views much earlier than my peers.

I also can say #MeToo.

But, I stand for equality. Love for our fellow brothers as well as sisters of the light.

I stand for peace, love, and support. Not name calling or exclusion.

Stand up for your feminist rights, but love your man (men) fiercely and wholly while you do it.

Let’s create equality.

What!? Are we really at the end of 2017? My goodness, where did this year go?  I honestly don't know. Suddenly it was January 1st, 2017, and just as suddenly it's almost January 1st, 2018. This year felt like a shinkansen (bullet train). In a blink of an eye, it's passed. If you're anything like me, you also found this year challenging. It was difficult, stretching, and confronting. It was shadowy. For me it was a year of deep revelations and even deeper lessons. I learned a ton. I cried a ton. And truth be told, I struggled a ton, too.

You're waking each morning in a state of angst. Your heart is racing, the bed sheets are tossed and rumpled, and you feel sweaty and slack. Something is wrong; very wrong. Before you swing your legs out of bed and begin your day, you stay lying down and take a moment to analyse your life.  "What is going on with me?" you ask yourself, "I've been feeling this way for weeks!?" Your start to scan your life, thinking of everything that could be making you feel this way.

For some reason I'm rummaging around in Mum's old white bookshelf. I'm unsure why I got the sudden urge to pull books out, quickly scan their covers, and shove them back into the shelf. But then it catches my eye— a small, old, tattered blue-coloured book with a lily flower on the front. It's my Grandmother Jean's book; the book she wrote while she was dying of cancer in 1978, when she was only fifty-five years of age with two of her seven children still in their teens and living at home.
